How it works
Choose month by month or a whole year, then the starting month and how many months to print. The sheet on the right is drawn by the same layout code that writes the PDF, at the real proportions of US Letter or A4, so what you see is what prints. A month page has big writing boxes, the holiday names in the right day, and small calendars for the month before and after. The year page fits all 12 months on one sheet with a list of every holiday and date underneath.
- Holidays worked out by rule. Nothing is copied from a list. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, Memorial Day the last Monday in May, and so on, so any year from 1900 to 2200 comes out right.
- Your dates. Add birthdays, trips or school days. "Every year" dates repeat on every calendar you make.
- Print or PDF. Print sends only the calendar pages to your printer. Download PDF saves a vector file you can print at any time or send to a print shop.

How the observed day is chosen
OPM’s rule for most federal employees: if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before is the day off (5 U.S.C. 6103(b)); if it falls on a Sunday, the Monday after is the day off (Executive Order 11582). The fixed-date holidays are the ones that move: New Year’s Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Christmas Day. The others always land on a Monday or a Thursday.
MLK Day = third Monday in January
Washington’s Birthday = third Monday in February
Memorial Day = last Monday in May
Labor Day = first Monday in September
Columbus Day = second Monday in October
Thanksgiving = fourth Thursday in November
Juneteenth National Independence Day became a federal holiday in 2021, so calendars for 2020 and earlier leave it out. Inauguration Day is also a holiday every four years, but only for federal workers in the Washington, DC area, so it is not shown.
Tips for printing
- Print at 100% or "Actual size". "Fit to page" shrinks the margins your printer does not need.
- Portrait suits a fridge or a binder; landscape gives wider day boxes for writing.
- To save ink, pick Graphite or a light colour. The holiday shading is a pale tint of whichever colour you choose.
Questions people ask
Which holidays are on the calendar?
The 11 US federal holidays set by law in 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday (often called Presidents’ Day), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. You can also add popular days that are not days off, such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Halloween and the start and end of daylight saving time.
What does "(observed)" mean on some days?
When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, most federal employees get the Friday before off; when it falls on a Sunday, they get the Monday after. That is the rule OPM publishes for its holiday tables. The calendar shows the holiday on its real date and marks the weekday off as "observed". Banks, schools and private employers often follow the same days, but check with yours.
Why is New Year’s Day on December 31?
When January 1 falls on a Saturday, the day off moves to Friday, December 31 of the year before. That happens for New Year’s Day 2028, so a 2027 calendar shows December 31, 2027 as New Year’s Day (observed). OPM lists that day in its 2028 table for the same reason.
Can I add birthdays and my own dates?
Yes. Add up to 60 dates with a short label under "Your dates". Tick "Every year" for birthdays and anniversaries and they repeat on every calendar you print. A February 29 birthday shows on February 28 in other years. Long labels are shortened to fit the day box.
Will it print on A4 paper, or in landscape?
Yes. Choose US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) or A4 (210 × 297 mm), portrait or landscape. The PDF is made at exactly that size, so print it at 100% or "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page" for the sharpest result.
Is this calendar free to print and share?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. The calendar is drawn in your browser and the PDF is built on your device, so nothing you type, including your dates, is sent to a server.
Can I start the week on Monday?
Yes. Pick Sunday or Monday under "Week starts on". Sunday is the usual US layout; Monday matches most of Europe and the ISO standard. The small previous and next month calendars at the top follow the same choice.
